You can still see Peaches! Pretty soon she will become invisible. All those brilliant fall leaves will lose their color. But until they do:

WOW1 It’s been a brilliant fall. Have other falls astonished me this much?
It feels uplifting before the coming …

“Don’t take me in!” winter.
A number of years ago, I was standing in line at Boston Logan Airport and got into a conversation with an insurance agent. This was right after the hurricanes had ripped through Florida – and the agent was telling me something about how that would affect insurance companies willingness to insure homes in that state. Just recently, I got an email from the company I use for my home insurance: they had hired someone to take drone photos of my property. In their photo, it looked like foliage was covering several buildings and…. “How close to the water did I live?”
I sent my own photos back to argue with theirs. Just last year, I had hired a tree company to take down any limbs that endangered the buildings. I went on to tell the insurance company that I had had this house rebuilt in 2000 . And that this is a boathouse! I sent photos showing the stone foundation to reassure them.
But a drone photo? And taken from an angle that made it look like the trees were over the roofs? I invited them to send someone here to look.
On Squam, the whole ethos is for the houses to NOT look obvious:. This not only more soothing but it’s better for the lake these days: the plants and trees to absorb the water that might run from a nearby road – with all the nasty chemicals used on them.
I don’t live in Florida. I hadn’t thought insurance companies would be so concerned about my location. At the some time: winter is coming. And we all hope it’s kind to us.
