I fell in love with this boathouse, my home now, the minute I stepped into it and looked out at the lake and the distant mountains. It was November. There were no boats out. Only water, earth and sky. And so quiet. Soothing even.
Coming from the bustle of Brookline, this place looked exactly like what I wanted. Or needed. For me and my child, Nika. Soon to include Hunter, then Ariella and Samsun. And later to welcome their half-siblings, Emmanuelle and Victor.
The children loved what I hadn’t seen – because I had only visited after boat season – the summer traffic. All the activity on the lake and the tumult that came washing their way when swimming. For them, the more waves the better. But me?

It’s getting close to the time of year that I fell in love with the lake.
That said, so much of what I’ve been focussed on the last 2 days has been traveling. Time away from here. Yikes!
I’ll be flying to Barcelona in December!
I’ll be there to visit Ariella and Ramzi. Yes, they live in Algeria but the new one is coming into this world in Spain. I’ll be visiting soon afterwards.
I’m not someone who travels easily. Just the thought of the trip took getting used to, much less making the plans. I thought I was ahead of the game when I looked up flights and got an idea of times and cost. But when I checked back on October 1, there was a price increase. And then when I went to pay, they said it was too late, there had been another. I then googled Madrid airport for changing flights and it sounded as it that was NOT the place to do it, so I was glad I hadn’t scheduled that flight. This whole nutty scenario of how and when and how much went on until the end of the day when I was FINALLY able to book a flight. And, after a phone call to the airlines, i got a seat assignment for the one flight that’s 9 hours long.
But I know, it’s not the flying. It’s not Barcelona, It’s the people I love and this moment in their lives that is my incentive.
I’m going to see Ariella. And Ramzi. And this newborn, so willing to come into this world and be celebrated. And loved.
A few precious days with precious moments.
So when I come back and say “Barcelona this” or “Barcelona that”, you’ll know – I’m actually talking about my time with loved ones.
Which might include a few walks with their 2 dogs

(That’s okay, Peaches. I’ll be back.)
