almost equinox

A few days ago, I was on the telephone talking to my good friend, Kristin, when I saw an eagle swoop down and catch a fish. It then landed on my swim dock and started to feast. Such a spectacle.

The weekend following was as full; not with eagles but with my sense of witnessing. I didn’t see, but I had heard so much about a wedding on Church Island. I also wasn’t part of the fundraiser for veterans that was led by Larry, who had served in Iraq. And I know Cindy, who sponsored the event on her boat on Squam that same day.

I also was not in Toronto: Amanda sent me updates on Mischa – now walking up the sliding board! Hunter and Artemis called in to show me Artemis’s first loose tooth. Earlier, she and I had talked about Barcelona where we will be in December with Ariella and Ramzi and their new baby girl. So, of course, Ariella called and Ramzi chimed in about plans: where I might stay, for how long.

I woke up this morning and the kind tax assessor from CT had emailed to say I needed to submit my papers in a different form…. I spent an hour trying Adobe and Word – she didn’t like either. I got myself all tied up in knots over my frustration with handling documents on the computer. Finally, I decided to mail in a paper copy.

It’s almost the fall equinox and my head is here, there, and everywhere.

And then there is Peaches. Ready any time. Get up! Go outside!

I put on my warmer clothes and head out to my favorite woods, There I notice the later sunrise. Ans I watch the leaves beginning to turn.

I feel so lucky to live where I do.

And I know it’s Peaches’s favorite place too.
